From Family Adventure to Aid Organization
ROOTS & BRIDGES was founded by Katharina and Hardy after a three-month family adventure in South Africa.
On site, we experienced how much power lies in local initiatives and that it's not about building new things, but about strengthening and promoting existing ones.
This led to the vision of creating Safe Parks together with partners, which open up long-term perspectives for children.

ROOTS & BRIDGES dreams of a world where every child grows up with dignity and can reach their full potential.
ROOTS stands for the foundation of a safe life and a deep connection to culture and community, BRIDGES for openness, opportunities, and the global connection between people.
Because only together can we create a world where a better future is possible.

We are led by a diverse and passionate team of African and European changemakers. Together, we bring experience, heart, and dedication to everything we do, united by a common goal: to create safe, self-determined, and meaningful future prospects for children.
ROOTS & BRIDGES operates in Germany and South Africa with two legally independent organizations, which, however, act as one joint organization in terms of content, strategy, and operations.
This structure was deliberately chosen. It enables projects to be implemented close to the local people, reduces bureaucratic hurdles in South Africa, and at the same time ensures transparency, accountability, and eligibility for funding in Germany.
